OPEN VIDEO PROJECTS AT BLUEROOM
RIALTOSANTAMBROGIO, VIA S.AMBROGIO
ROME, ITALY

www.blue-room.it

Blueroom is a laboratory for artistic and cultural innovations and investigations into new forms of interactivity between electronic music and visual art. Since 2002, Blueroom has proposed as "art-aintment," a new way to conceive artistic "time" and "space" in which the performance of the artist and the active participation of the public become the fundamental elements in any given event.

On January 27, 1999, a group of disenfranchised residents of Rome became squatters in the abandoned and decaying Rialto Cinema, which was then the property of the city of Rome. The new inhabitants gave birth to the most central "centro sociale" (social center) in Rome, Italy. Refusing ties to tested formulas, through 14 months of daily experimentation, their occupation gave life to a very different path--particular and specific--of art, culture, rights, and politics: Rialtooccupato. Rialtooccupato proceeded to obtain a portion of the Complesso Monumentale di S. Ambrogio alla Massima in Rome's former Jewish Ghetto in March of 2002, where it is currently situated. Under its new name, Rialtosantambrogio (now a cultural association), continues to develop a project of political culture, open to 360 degrees of contemporary artistic languages through its programming of theater, music, and visual arts, and it has become a point of reference on national territory for all non-conventional artistic experiences and research.
